Glossary for Patient Reports and Guidelines

Age/Sex Filter - A line which determines that subsequent lines will only be displayed according to certain age or sex criteria, eg all females over 25 years. The filter Both Sexes, All Ages cancels any previous line filter. Age/Sex Filter selection icon on floating toolbar

Applications - See External Application

Bitmap or Simple bitmap - A picture or Image included within a guideline, eg, outline of a lower limb

Bitmap hotspot - A bitmap hotspot is usually a picture, which when clicked by the user, triggers an action, such as going to another Add, Edit or Display screen, or starting another application. Select Bitmap or Clinical Data Hotspot icon on floating toolbar

Carriage Return - Insert a carriage return for a new line - see Guidelines/Reports Design - Insert new line

Category - The sort of line included in a report or guideline, eg sub-heading, patient data, drug default, guideline, prescribing message, reference, multi-media etc.

Clinical Data or Bitmap Hotspot - Within Guideline, click on bitmap to display a Clinical Data Hotspot, eg, History-Add.

Collapsed - Showing only the headings, and no line details Collapse all levels

Delete Current Line -

Guidelines/Reports Design Mode . - Allows amendments and editing of report or guideline; displays the floating toolbar.

Drag and Drop - Moving lines elsewhere within reports in design mode (see Drag and Drop Lines).

Drug Drug class List - A drug regime from an Drug class rather than the dictionary (Drug Drug class List)

Drug Information for Patient can be printed out for a patient, relating specifically to the drug regime. Select Drug Information for Patient on floating toolbar

Drug Regime - A Drug Regimeis a list of relevant drug names with all available forms, strengths and dosages which can be filtered by age. Prescriptions can be issued from these. Select Drug Regime icon on floating toolbar.

Embed - Embed a Guideline Jump to, or embed, another guideline or pre-defined report lines.

Embedded - See Word Wrap, Selectable, Initially Expanded, Embedded

Expanded Showing both headings and line details. Expand all levels

Export - Export a guideline

External application - Within a guideline, run any external Application by clicking on a bitmap hotspot, eg show a file from a word processing directory. Select External application icon on floating toolbar

Filter - See Age/Sex Filter.

Floating toolbar - Once the design maintenance mode icon is clicked, a floating toolbar shows a collection of icons used in Maintenance. See Floating Toolbar in Design Mode

Go - Performs selected action(s), often Print, and exit (not used in Design Mode). Usually you block highlight the section beforehand to select it, for instance printing a patient advice section.

Guideline - Click on this to open the guideline index

Header - Header is the title of a report, for example, Encounter Report. Edit Header icon on floating toolbar

Icons - From Reports or Guideline toolbar, displays Report Index and subsequently prints selected report

Open a new Guideline (or Alt-G-S) via Select by Mnemonic screen

Expand all line levels (ie show Level 1 and below - ie sub-headings and the lines underneath) (in View mode only, and not Design mode)

Collapse all line levels below Level 1 (sub-headings only will show) (in View mode only, and not Design mode)

Toggle Design Maintenance mode (turn editing mode on or off)

Copy selection to Clipboard (<Ctrl C>)

Cut selection and put on Clipboard (also <Ctrl X>)

Paste (insert Clipboard selection) (also <Ctrl V>)

Transfer line styles to other lines

Save

Index - Guideline Index is opened, or this icon appears beside minimised triggered guidelines at the bottom of the MRO column of Patient Records

Initially expanded - Whether a line is expanded to show its lower level lines on first selecting the report. See Word Wrap, Selectable, Initially Expanded, Embedded

Insert new line - see Carriage Return

Keyboard - Alternative keystrokes are:

Space Bar - selects an item, if selectable

<Ctrl Z> - Undo function

<Ctrl C> - Copy function

<Ctrl X> - Cut function

<Ctrl V> - Paste

Shift-F12 - displays the Select Guideline by Mnemonic screen.

Levels and Text Indents - The hierarchy of lines within a report, determining the lines displayed when expanding or collapsing. Indents define the distance from the left margin and are tied up with the level. See Line Levels and Text Indents.

Line properties - See Properties

Mnemonic - The shorthand word that displays a report template, up to 10 characters, for example, ENCFORM is the mnemonic for the Encounter Report; SIGHIST for Significant History Report. Entered on the Header.

Patient Advice - This is advice for the patient which can be printed out and is specific to the guideline topic, and usually an alternative to prescribing Select Patient Advice icon on floating toolbar. See Patient Advice.

Patient Data Grid - Add for a Management Plan (see Patient Data Grid and Management Plans).

Patient Reports - Select and Print Patient Reports. A report consists of lines which can merge with data for the currently selected patient.

Patient Data - Patient Data is a data line that will merge with data for the currently selected patient, such as a blood pressure result, an address etc. Patient Data icon on floating toolbar

Patient Data - This displays Patient Data in grid format, as in Management Plans. See Patient Data Grid and Management Plans.

Plan - Another name for a report or form

Print - Print options, or prints selected text (see sections on Print, and Print Prescriptions and Patient Advice).

Properties - On a report or guideline, determine the Properties, iehow a category or line will be displayed and what displays.

Record diagnosis - READ term and Record Diagnosiswith a pre-selected Read Term in a Guideline - see READ term and Record Diagnosis.

Report - see Patient Report.

Return - see Carriage Return

Right mouse - Use the right mouse on a line of an expanded report to show the normal menu of Item View, List, Consultation View, Graph, Problems, Edit, Delete, etc. In design mode, with Design mode/Maintenance on, the menu becomes Properties, Insert line before, Insert line after, Delete, Plan Header. See Right mouse options in Design Mode/Maintenance.

Save - see Save and Exit from Guidelines Design mode.

Selectable - When is line is marked as selectable, then a mouse click on that line will highlight and select it ready for an action, such as printing. Only lines with no children may be marked as selectable. See Word Wrap, Selectable, Initially Expanded, Embedded

Style - Transfer line Guidelines/Reports Design - Stylefrom one line to another

Sub-Heading - Sub-heading - Level 1 line in Report or Guideline, eg Significant Medical History (see also Sub-heading in Guideline).

Text - Text can either be imported from elsewhere or typed in free text, to create patient advice, prescribing messages, references etc. for guidelines (see Text line categories in guidelines). Text icon on floating toolbar

Text Indent - A visual way of showing line level hierarchies (see Line Levels and Text Indents).

Design mode/Maintenance on or off (see "Guidelines/Reports Design Mode") for both reports or guidelines.

Toolbar - See Floating Toolbar - and Icons

User mode - Design mode/Maintenance switched off.

Video - Within a guideline, include a Video to run a short extract of film relevant to the guideline topic, eg ultrasound.

Word Wrap - Defines whether the text wraps on to a new line at the end of a box. If the box is re-sized, the text will change in length. If word wrap is not selected, then the text is shown as one line only, with a horizontal scroll bar. See Word Wrap, Selectable, Initially Expanded, Embedded
