READ term and Record Diagnosis
On a guideline, you can include a Record Diagnosis line with a pre-selected Read term, so that when that line is selected in a guideline for a patient, it will display a History-Add screen with that line as a default.
- With a guideline in Design mode/Maintenance, add a suitable sub-heading first, then click on the Record Diagnosis icon .
- Double click or press F3 in the Read Term window and select a suitable Read Term. Remember that when entering a code on the front READ screen, use the # sign first and upper case for letters, eg #F26 for migraine. The selected Read term will then be displayed in Read Term.
- Priority - the default is 3, but can be between 1-9.
- Include all children - If this box is checked, all lower level Read codes within the same hierarchy will be included.
- Add children explicitly - If this box is checked, then all the children codes will be included so that you can them exclude the ones you do not want.
- Click on Add to display the Read term(s) in the main window.
- If you chose to add children explicitly, all the children codes will be listed. Eliminate the lines you do not want by clicking on the line, then Remove. If you hold the Control key down, you can click on several non-consecutive lines to highlight them. Holding the Shift key down allows you to block highlight a block of lines. Then click on Remove to get rid of these.
- Click on Accept.
- Now right click on the subheading line, select Properties and in Initially Expanded, make sure this is unchecked.
- Now click within the list of READ terms so it is selected (framed above and below). Right click, select Properties, and change Level to 2 (presuming your subheading was Level 1). Because this text is now at a lower level than its subheading, the subheading will appear on its own ("collapsed"), and will need a click on the subheading when needed in order to expand the text (READ terms) beneath. This prevents a long list of READ terms always appearing. For further help with this, see Properties.
- Save the guideline and exit.
- When you come to use this line within normal Guideline mode, you can click on this line's sub-heading, to display a list of all selected READ terms. Double click on the line to display a History-Add screen with that Read Term as the default.
