Copy, Cut, Paste, Drag and Drop
Once you are in design mode, you can select a line so that it is either highlighted in blue or framed by lines above and below.
You can then either Copy or Cut the line and paste it elsewhere. You can also drag and drop lines.
- Use the Copy selection to Clipboard (or <Ctrl C>) in order to copy the line but retain the original line as well. You cannot select lines in design mode, but you can copy one current line to the clipboard, as you can in non-design mode. This will include all the line's properties, so that the line can be pasted elsewhere within the report template.
- Use the Cut icon to remove the current line, and put it on the Clipboard (the keyboard equivalent is <Ctrl X>). This can then be pasted elsewhere within the report template or another application such as Notepad.
-
The Paste icon, inserting a Clipboard selection, is duplicated by the keyboard function of <Ctrl V>. When you come to paste a clipboard item, this will be pasted before the line you point at when selecting Paste. this means you cannot paste on to the header line.
Note - A note of warning is given about cutting and pasting lines that then leave inappropriate line levels, for example, pasting a level six line after a level four line. You are advised to check that line levels correspond to your intended hierarchy before saving the plan. See Line Levels and Text Indents.
Drag and Drop Lines
The position of groups of lines within the report can be altered using drag and drop.
- First display the required report template in design mode, with Design mode/Maintenance on. All lower levels (children) of a level one line will be carried in this operation.
- Pick up a group of lines by holding the left mouse button, changing the cursor to a page icon. Move the cursor to where you want to drop the lines and release the mouse.
- The level one line, and all its children lines, will now be inserted before the line on which you released the mouse. The cursor will change to a No Entry icon where you are not permitted to release the mouse.
If you want to copy a group of lines, follow the above, but hold down the Control key while you are doing so. See the warning given in Line Levels and Text Indents that all levels must be in sequence - you must not leave lines with an inappropriate level number (level 4 after level 2, for example).
