Medicine Use Review
The Medicine Use Review (MUR) is a planned review with your regular patients. The review helps patients to understand the therapy, identify side-effects and any changes by improving patient:
- Knowledge
- Compliance
- Use of medicines
of both prescribe and over the counter medication.
Note - The Medicines Use Review
(MUR) is an advanced service within the Community Pharmacy Contract. A full clinical medication review service can be offered
as an Enhanced Service.
There are various ways of identifying patients who may be suitable for a MUR:
- Patient Medicine Record (PMR) - You can use the PMR to identify patients on multiple medications with long-term conditions who have been having their prescriptions dispensed regularly at this pharmacy for the previous three months.
- Primary Care Organisation (PCO) - Your PCO may identify specific patient groups for targeting, based on the needs of the local health economy. At least 70% of all MURs you undertake each year should be on patients within the national target groups. See MUR statistics reports for details on how to view your percentage.
- Health Care Professionals - Other health care professionals may refer patients to you for MUR's.
- Patient Request - Patients can request a MUR directly, they must however be patients of your pharmacy.
- Pharmacist - You can identify patients who may benefit from this service and give them a regular 12-monthly MUR. This could be in response to you having to make a significant prescription intervention during the dispensing process or identifying a significant problem which needs more detailed examination of the patient’s medication regimen
A report of the review can be given to the patient and in some circumstances, notification of the outcome may be passed to their GP.
Pharmacy Manager makes it quick and easy for you to plan, execute and print an MUR.
