Preferred Drug List Options
The section Prescribing from a Local Guideline - showed how to prescribe a drug from a Drug Drug class List on a guideline, and how to put this drug on the Preferred Drug List. This also depended on whether Add to Preferred Drug List or Prompt to Add to Preferred Drug List were selected as options when setting up the Drug Drug class List (see the separate Reports and Guidelines Maintenance).
The Preferred Drug List appears beneath the main sub-heading for the Drug class or beneath the Active Repeat Masters (Drug class) heading, whichever has been used. Beneath the Preferred Drug List is then the Drug class heading, followed by the drugs within that Drug class in green.
The Preferred Drug List will carry any drug check warnings relevant for the currently selected patient.
There are such further options which you can make if you right mouse click on one of the Preferred Drug List lines under the main heading:
- Make Repeat - This flags the drug item with a repeat symbol. When you double click on the line to prescribe it, it defaults to Repeat in the Prescribe Drug screen.
- Add - This will add another drug line, either for the same drug or choosing a different drug. Click on Add and the Derive New Drug Default screen displays. Either you can amend quantity, preparation, dosage and the age range of the existing drug and click on OK; or you can double click in the drug window and select a different drug.
You will be warned if any new drug default you have added is not valid for the current patient, for example, if you have added a new line for age 0-12 years, and the current patient is over 12 years.
This drug default is not valid for the current patient. It has been added to the guideline but will not be displayed. When initially populating the guideline, it is recommended that you deselect the patient. This will allow you to view all the drugs in your preferred list irrespective of age range.
- Remove - Highlight a line in the Preferred Drug List and click on Remove. This deletes it from the list.
- Properties - The standard amendment screen for the level, text indent and whether initially expanded.
