Add a Default Referral to a Patient

Adding a new default referral to a patient's record can be made in one of two wys:

  1. Either select Add - Referrals, and then From Default and select from the list of defaults, by either double clicking, or scroll, highlight and press Enter.
  2. Or add a referral in the usual way, and a default referral is triggered from the READ code entered.

(1) From Default

If a patient has a common complaint, for which you know you have a default referral:

  1. Select Add - Referrals.
  2. Select From Default. The Select Default Referral screen displays, listing any defaults.
  3. Scroll and highlight the default referral you want and click on OK or Enter, or double click. The Referral Maintenance - Add screen will be displayed if any of the mandatory fields are not complete. If Auto Save was checked when adding the default, and the mandatory fields are complete, then the ReferralMaintenance - Add screen will not be displayed. Refer back to step 9 of "Set up new Default Referral".
  4. If the Referral Maintenance - Add screen displays, select the Unit, Department, Consultant and Specialties.
  5. Add the referral letter at this stage if you want using , before finally clicking on OK (see "Generate Referral letter").

(2) Triggered by READ code

You can also trigger a default referral by entry of a READ code:

  1. Select or Add – Referrals -Referrals.
  2. At READ Term for Referral Reason, enter a READ code. If you have entered a READ code which has already been used to set up a default referral, when you tab away, the default entries will automatically be filled in.
  3. If, however, there is more than one default for that READ code, a list of Default Referrals displays for selection.
  4. Complete the remaining entries of Unit, Department, Consultant and Specialties if they are not already filled in. TP Specialty is mandatory before you activate a referral letter or you click on OK.
