Embed a Guideline

There are already a number of pre-defined guidelines or report templates that you can embed into a guideline or report, rather than having to re-define them each time...

When embedding a guideline within a guideline, you could insert a fuller guideline consisting of several sub-headings with their patient data lines, such as CVBP (CV and BP Management).

Note - Embedded guidelines can be used in one of two ways - embedding or jumping to (see Step 4 below).

The Reports Index and local Guidelines Index is built up with a series of embedded guidelines or reports (see Add to Guidelines or Reports Index) and for the Guideline Index. See

  1. Once in design mode on a guideline or report, click on the Select Guideline icon on the floating toolbar; or clicking with the right mouse, select Add, then Guideline.
  2. At the Select Guideline screen, select the guideline or report you want to embed. For instance, for a system report, type R_, press Enter then click to highlight then OK on the report you want.
  3. Click OK.
  4. If you click with the right mouse on this line and select Properties, there is an option Embedded. If this is checked, then the new guideline will be embedded in the current guideline. Otherwise it will be available in a separate window (if you go to the Windows menu, you will see both your original guideline/report, and the one you clicked on).
    • Embed a guideline - Alternatively, a guideline can be embedded within a guideline. The embedded guideline appears as an expandable line within the parent guideline, and can be expanded when it is clicked.
    • Jump to related guideline - There may either be the option to jump to another related guideline, for example, "Burn- unspecified" may include a See Also listing guidelines for more specific burns. Double clicking one of these will open the new guidelines, for example, "Burn of the trunk."
