Adding Your Own Therapy Defaults

To add a practice default for a medication:

Training Tip - If you want to set a Pack Size for this default, you must know the size required before starting this process.
  1. From Consultation Manager, with a patient selected and a Consultation open, select the Therapy tab.

  2. Press <F8> or start typing the medication name and the Therapy - Add screen displays.

  3. Select the medication you want to set up the default for, see Using the Select Drug Screen for details if required.

  4. Select Preparation to choose specific pack size if required.

  5. Right click on the Therapy form and select Drug Defaults.
  6. Select Maintain and the Default Dosages and Quantities - Add screen displays.
  7. Now set your practice defaults:
    • Age Range - Defaults to All ages, to apply an age range select Add and enter a Start age, End age, or both, for example, enter 0y in Start age and 16y in End age for 0 to 16 years, select OK to save.
    • Quantity and Preparation - Defaults to your selection from the Therapy - Add screen, update if required, see Quantity, Preparation, Packs for details if required.
    • Treatment Days - Optional, entering a default number of treatment days as well as a quantity is optional, and only relevant for repeat master prescriptions
    • Force Re-Authorise - Applied to repeat master prescriptions created from this default only. Tick to ensure reauthorisation of this medication can only be carried out by a valid prescriber.
    • Information for Patient - Select to add free text information for patients being prescribed this item. This always print on the right-hand side of the prescription.
    • Pack Size - Enter the pack size if required, from 0 to 99999
    • Dosage - Enter the default dosage required, see Adding a Dosage for Selected Therapy for details if required.
    • Repeats - These are only applied if a Repeat Master is created for this medication:

      • Number - Enter the number of issues required.

      • Duration - You can enter a time for the prescription to last, for example, 28d for 28 days.

      • Days Between Issues - Optional, enter a minimum and/or maximum of days between issues, see Repeats, Repeat Until, Days Between, Force Reauthorise for details if required.

    • Drug Class - If the medication selected has more than one licensed class, select the class this default applies to, select <none> if no drug class applies by default. This selection results in the prescriber using different defaults for different conditions with the same medication.

  8. Select Save and then Close.
