If Formulary selection is still being used

If formulary selection is still being used, when selecting a drug by typing part of the name, the only drugs listed are those contained in the relevant formulary. When pressing F3 to display the back Drug Select screen, note that the Formulary flag is checked and disabled, and the Mode button is disabled.

Drug lists, both hierarchical and by word search, only contain drugs from the current formulary. When displaying by Drug Class, this may result in multiple empty nodes. This helps the nurse to know which nodes of the hierarchy will contain prescribable items.

The Packs section on the Drug Select screen shows whether items are in the Nurse formulary or Extended formulary.

A suitable drug pack must be selected from the list using on the front Therapy Add screen.

If switching between brand and generic, a check is made that the generic is in the formulary. If it is not, then a message displays and the switch disallowed.

Click OK to save. The drug checks screen will be displayed if set to do so.

It is not possible to add private prescriptions, and the private prescription check box will be disabled on Therapy Add. A message will be shown for non-NHS drugs: It is not possible for [nurse] to prescribe non-NHS drugs. For private patients where the private box is checked, the warning is: It is not possible for [nurse] to prescribe privately.

The Prescriber list contains all staff members with a valid Prescribing number, including all nurse prescribers as well as GPs. If the current user signed on is a nurse prescriber, the selection defaults to that person. If the selected prescriber is a doctor, then all therapy forms will continue to work in exactly the same as at present, ie there is selection from either the full drug dictionary or the practice formulary.
