Example:

Amoxicillin 250mg capsules, 500 pack, has a selection of different suppliers listed in the Ordering tab of the Product Details. The list includes wholesaler item codes such as UniChem, and manufacturers' item codes such as Regent Laboratories. The Wholesaler items (e.g. UniChem) contain the Wholesaler's own unique order code to obtain the wholesaler's current Best-buy on this item. The Manufacturer of the item could be any of those listed.

Best-buy

If –

(a) the Best-buy Item option is checked in the Product Item Details for any of the Wholesaler codes

– and –

(b) if you use an Order Set that uses the same wholesaler when ordering that product

– then the system orders the relevant Best-buy code, irrespective of the Default Item.

Default

When you order the same product using an order set for a wholesaler who does not have a Best-buy code for the product, the system orders the default manufacturer item.

Patient Records

When you dispense a product to a patient, the exact manufacturer of the item dispensed must be recorded in their record. Therefore, you cannot set a wholesaler item as the default product item because they might supply from one of a number of manufacturers.

In the example above, if you order Best-buy from UniChem, and they supply Amoxicillin 250mg capsules manufactured by Regent, you need to set the default item on the Product Details > Ordering tab to Regent. When you order some more, and they supply Cox, amend the default to Cox when you start dispensing it.

Change default when dispensing

To change the default manufacturer item during dispensing (for example, when the wholesaler supplies an alternative),

• Select the product to dispense;

• Use  & to bring up a list of all Manufacturers of that product.

• Highlight the manufacturer and click on the Default button.

This will record that Manufacturer on the current dispensed item and change the default for future dispensing.

Temporary change default

To change the Manufacturer for the current dispensed item only:

• Highlight the manufacturer and

• Click OK.

This will not change the default.
