Attaching Vision 3 referrals in the web-based e-Referral Service
We recommend you use the e-Referral service through Vision 3 in the fully integrated way as this maintains the integrity of the clinical record and maximises confidentiality. If, however, web-based use of the e-Referral service is unavailable, then the following method is recommended for practices with local servers.
Note - This method is not suitable for practices using remote servers as the e-Referral service cannot find files on the remote server and so access to local drives is needed.
To attach a Vision 3 referral via the web-based e-Referral service:
- Create a folder on your server, on the global G: drive if there is one or else on the P: drive. Name the folder Referral Letters or something similar.
- Create and save the referral letter in the usual way.
- After saving and while still in Word, select File - Save As and save a second copy of the file in the folder you have created for this purpose. This additional copy should be given a recognisable file name, for example, the patient's surname, forename and date of birth, eg Smith John 20050116.
- Subsequently when using the web based e-Referral service, this separate copy of the letter can be attached using the Add Referral Letter button on the Referral Request summary page.
- The temporary copy of the referral letter should be deleted once it is known that the attachment has been successfully lodged with the e-Referral. This minimises the risk to patient confidentiality and makes best use of disk space.
