ECS Consent - Northern Ireland
DLM 310 brings the ECS scheme to practice in Northern Ireland. Rules Governing Patient Consent are as follows:
Patient consent is a critical aspect of the ECS project in Northern Ireland. Consent is automatically assumed, but can be refused if a patient does not want their Emergency Care Summary to be viewed by clinical staff. The following applies for dissenting patients:
- No data is sent to the SCI store if consent is refused.
- If a patient withdraws consent after data has already been sent to SCI store, their Emergency Care Summary is made unavailable to anyone who searches for it.
- If a patient re-consents to be part of the ECS scheme (after previously dissenting) a full patient extract is sent to SCI Store.
- During out-of-hours, the patient will be asked for consent to view their record on a per consultation basis.
