The transfer of the Medical Record Envelope (MRE) continues for the following reasons:
- The use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) for direct patient care is not across 100% of patients.
- A large percentage of patient information from outside of practices remains paper-based.
- The variable degree to which such external information is incorporated into the Electronic Health Records.
Therefore, the need for a patient summary of the patient's EHR to accompany the MRE continues.
