Original Pack Dispensing

How do I Amend Dispensed Quantities for Original Pack Dispensing (2:32)

Note - The guidance below is applicable to prescriptions issued electronically via EPS in England and Wales.

Pharmacy Manager currently supports Original Pack Dispensing (OPD) by allowing a quantity greater or less than the prescribed amount to be dispensed and claimed. However, it is the responsibility of a pharmacist, or staff under the supervision of a pharmacist to determine if the product qualifies for OPD and whether the quantity dispensed is within the +/- 10% threshold.

Note - Care should be taken when labelling prescriptions with multiple items to ensure that you identify and amend quantities (if needed) for OPD.

To adjust the quantity dispensed in Pharmacy Manager:

  1. When dispensing an electronic prescription on the Dispensary screen, edit the Quantity to the actual quantity dispensed.

    Continue the dispense as normal.

  2. A 'dm+d quantity of nn tablet being dispensed does not match dm+d quantity nn tablet prescribed' message displays.

    Select Proceed to continue.

No additional dispenser endorsements are required on electronic prescriptions to indicate to the NHS payment bureau if OPD +/-10% rules have been utilised. The claim is updated to reflect the quantity dispensed.

For more details and to view the OPD rules, see Original Pack Dispensing and Original Pack Dispensing FAQs from Community Pharmacy England.
