Advanced password reset

When a colleague has forgotten their password, in many circumstances, it is possible for you to trigger a password reset without having to contact Service Desk for assistance.

This explanation assumes that user accounts have previously been established for both you and your colleague who has forgotten their password.

Status

Two status levels of authority exist in the context of user passwords - administrators and non-administrators.

  • An administrator can reset the password for any colleague regardless of their colleague's status.

  • A non-administrator can only reset the password for another colleague with the same non-administrator status.

Resetting password

Scenario -  a colleague cannot log into the system and requires their password resetting

  • You successfully log in

  • On the menu bar, select Tools

  • Select User account management from the drop down menu

  • Highlight the colleague who has forgotten their password

  • The User details window for the colleague who has forgotten their password appears.

  • Click the Forgot passwordbutton

  • Answer your three security questions to verify your identity.

  • You can now enter a temporary password for your colleague.

  • Enter it a second time to confirm.

  • Click the OK button.

Assuming you now log off, you can leave your colleague to login using their existing user ID and the temporary password that has been created for them.

  • They should enter the User ID and the temporary password.

  • Click the Log in button.

  • The system informs them that the temporary password will now expire

  • Click theOKbutton

  • The colleague who has forgotten their password should now enter their newly chosen password, followed by a second confirmation entry of the same new password.

If you do not meet the minimum criteria for the password (character length and content mix), you will be prompted to retry.

Your password must be "new". You cannot re-use any recently expired password.

  • Click the OK button.
