Release one prescriptions

In the initial release of EPS (known as release one or R1), the prescription was a variant of the standard FP10. The major difference was the inclusion of the barcode. During this phase, electronic prescription messages flowed alongside paper prescriptions.

Release 2 includes more sophisticated transmission of electronic messages. Whilst some patients will still receive a printed prescription (known as the prescription token), others will have their medication dispensed by the pharmacy on receipt of an electronic message with no accompanying piece of paper. Where a prescription token is supplied, enhanced functionality enables prescribers to sign prescription messages electronically, removing the need for a conventional signature on the prescription form.

This current version of Pharmacy Manager is backwards compatible for R1 prescriptions that you may receive. They should be scanned, downloaded and dispensed in the usual manner. However, once the dispense notification has been sent, the prescription should be manually processed and submitted on the regular monthly basis with your standard FP10s. Electronic reimbursement claims can only be made for R2 prescriptions/tokens/messages.
