CMS (Serial Prescribing) Exclusions

The following items are outside the scope of CMS (Serial Prescribing):

Medication

Medication excluded from CMS (Serial Prescribing) includes:

  • Non-FP10 drugs
  • Discontinued drugs
  • Oxygen
  • Handwritten drugs
  • Schedule 1, 2, 3 and 4 Controlled drugs
  • Cytotoxics

Types of Prescribing

The following prescribing types cannot be executed as part of CMS (Serial Prescribing):

  • Bulk prescribing
  • Prescription forms other than GP10
  • Private Prescriptions
  • NHS24 Prescribing
  • Out of Hours Prescribing
  • Dispensing by dispensing doctors (however, dispensing doctors require the ability to prescribe using CMS (Serial Prescribing) functionality).

Prescribers

The following prescribers are not able to produce an CMS (Serial Prescribing) prescription:

  • Nurse Prescribers
  • Supplementary Prescribers
  • Dentists
  • Hospital Consultants
  • Opticians
  • Optometrists

Other exclusions

Other prescribing exclusions include:

  • Private prescription
  • Personally administered
  • Dispensed
  • Source of drug is other than In Practice
  • Prescribing date is in the past
  • The print box is unchecked.
