Line Levels and Text Indents

If you click with the right mouse on a guideline or report line in Design Mode, you can select Properties. Two options are Level and Text Indent.

Each line has a level associated with it, and an indent (its distance from the left margin) is tied to the level:

Level one for sub-headings,

Level two for text beneath it,

Level three for more details, and so on.

The first Sub-heading is always at level 1. Any item inserted after a sub-heading is put at the next level in sequence.

If the previous line is highlighted, then the new line will go in at the same level.

You can quickly adjust the levels and indents of any selected line by using the right arrow key ® to shift a line and all its lower-level lines one text indent to the right and at the same time, increase its level. Similarly, the left arrow ¬ will shift the line to the left.

Otherwise, use the right mouse and select Properties. Adjust the levels and text indents. You can only select a level one lower than its parent line.

Note that successive lines should only be given consecutive levels, ie Level Two following Level One, Level Three following Level Two, as expanding and collapsing depends on the levels increasing by one. This means a Level Four line that follows a Level Two line will never be available.

• If you drag and drop lines, take care to make sure that you do not subsequently leave lines with an inappropriate level number, for example, putting a level four line after a level two line, as the level four line will never be displayed. On saving the plan, this will be checked and if so, you will be warned and given the opportunity either to allow the lines to be adjusted automatically (eg from level 4 to level 3), or to abandon saving the plan and making the adjustment manually.
• The following lines appear at the wrong level: [line text] = Level 1
• [Line text] = Level 3 The second of these lines will be adjusted to Level 2. Subsequent lines at the same level will not be affected

A collapsed report shows only level one, the parent line (usually the main sub-headings). You can expand each level in turn, by clicking on each line, while the subsequent lower levels (the child lines) remain hidden.

A line which is underlined indicates there are further levels to be revealed (but you cannot see this in design mode). Eventually you can view all the lines. These underlined lines usually apply to Last consultation and Problem lines.

For example, in the figure below:

Level One: (blue) Last Consultation line.

Level Two: 13/05/1996 Surgery consultation Mr System Supervisor

Level Three: (highlighted) the details of the consultation (13/05/1996 Sciatica Dr William Preston).
