Treatment

  • Current - This shows any current therapy.
  • Therapy Review - The line underneath this heading shows any Medicatation Review record. If you wish to set up an Diabetic Medication Review, then you may click on the Diabetes medication review button. However, if you want to record that a review has been done, right click on the data line directly beneath the Therapy Review heading, select Edit, and tick the box Review done. See also Medication Review
  • Maximal tolerated diabetic therapy - This button will record 8BL2 Patient onmaximal tolerated therapy for diabetes.
  • New - This has prescribable therapy for Insulin, Oral antidiabetic drugs, or Diagnostic & monitoring agents for diabetes mellitus.

    Click once on a blue line to expand the list beneath. For the first two, click on blue line again to reach the green prescribable lines.

    To prescribe, double click on a green line, choose either Repeat or Acute, and OK. Complete the Therapy Add screen and OK.

    The Drug Check results screen is shown. If you click on Yes to prescribe the drug, this enters the prescription on the patient's record.

    Press F9 to print the prescription – at the Therapy Print screen, if a repeat, select the repeat to be issued (either double click or press space bar).

    You may then be asked to Add the Medication to a Problem (depending on your set up - see Add the Medication to a Problem). Tick the Diabetes problem if it exists, but if not, click on the New problem button. Enter C10 as the Read Term, and DIABETES as the Short Name (or whatever short name you have decided upon in your practice for major disease area). The description will show on the problem list, so, e.g., Diabetes.

    You may then be asked, depending on how the guideline was set up, if you want to add this drug to the Preferred Drug List. If so, then this drug line will subsequently appear above the action group line on all Diabetic Management Plans. Complete the default quantity / preparation, dosage, and age range if required, and click on OK.

    If you do not want to add to the preferred drug list, select Cancel.

  • Insulin dosage comment - Note that the Diabetes Summary Form and Data Grid have an additional entry (not on the Diabetes Management Plan) for insulin dosage comment. The Read Term is blank. Type "insulin" and press Enter and scroll down using the down arrow to find the term you want. Add free text in the Notes field.
